End Of Year Report 2008
By Gilli Moon Co-Founder / President
Starting
in 1997, and 11 years on, and at least 9 years with an international
presence, Songsalive! has grown to be the largest international songwriters
organization worldwide, with songwriter and composer members reaching across
the U.S, Canada, Europe, Japan, China and Papua New Guinea. We
have over 20 chapters worldwide with the main office in Los Angeles,
and over 35 volunteers on the team.
Songsalive! has
always been promoted in the U.S.A, Canada and Europe as an Australian
organization, an Australian concept and we are constantly promoting our
services to Australians who tour overseas (“door stop to the world”), plus
encourage Australians to write with U.S, Canadian and European writers. We now have become an International organization with it's own Company in the US, providing direct support for US/Canadian and World songwriters.
LATEST INTERNATIONAL
NEWS:
- We have just started a chapter in Denmark – our new
Scandinavian Chapter – under the keen coordination of Petina Arskog, a
songwriter who is a member of the PRS KODA.
- In December 2008 we celebrated our 10 year
anniversary (though 11 years old) at the MINT, Los Angeles, which hosted
22 songwriter members performing, a huge raffle prize of over $1500 worth
in prizes, and to a packed standing room only audience. It was a fantastic
celebration and members flew in from around the US and some from Europe,
to participate.
- We have extended our global awareness campaign for a
greener planet, as part of our constitution and mission. www.songsalive.org/global.
Part of our work includes creating songs with our songwriter members that
are about global awareness. One such group we created through our program
Songcamp, in October, wrote a song called “We Need More Green” which is
now being pitched for licensing to various music supervisors.
- ·
These kind of amazing songs come out of
co-writing days we call SONGSALIVE! SONGCAMPS.
We have hosted Songcamps in south Park Colorado, Bermuda, Los Angeles, Houston
TX, and Philadelphia PA. www.songsalive.org/songcamp
for details. Songsalive! Songcamp: We have held 15 Songcamps now,
which are very successful, and they all write in groups of 4-6, with about 3-4
songwriters per group. They have a short amount of time to write (sometimes
only an hour) then performed them to the entire conference. Our Songcamps are a
full day (or several days) of song critiquing and then co-writing sessions
overseen by professional songwriter mentors. We often have up to 50 people at a
Songcamp. Next one, South Park, Colorado in June.
- We set up a special awareness campaign about the Bush Fires in Australia in Feb 09,
on our home page and have had an overwhelming response from our worldwide
subscribers who have been donating to the Red Cross.
- We are active as a 501c)3) non profit public
education charity (Songsalive! Inc) with tax-exempt status in California and
Federal (nationall). Being a public charity also offers us the opportunity
to receive promotion and work with various causes in the industry.
- ·
CD Sampler 10: We have
completed our 10th CD sampler compilation and are currently going through
hundreds of submissions, to select around 18 songwriters. We feature
Songwriters on the CD, (not artists) and the artists come from all around the
world - Australia, USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America. It will be
exhibited at many music conferences in 09 and 2010.
-
- ·

online members portal (new since late 07) has been really successful, where members can
log in and change their profile, interact with other members and receive

submit their songs for film, tv or artist song needs. We also have an online podcast,
broadcasting members’ songs online 24/7, as well as a Member page
highlighting our Elite members online with a profile, CD review and
interview we conduct with them. Our online
store is a great tool for our members to promote and sell their music and
we have connected with 2 very reputable e-stores to help us: cdbaby.com and
